Today, the new red light camera laws, which we wrote about last month will go into effect. As a result, many municipalities are shutting down their red light programs, at least temporarily, because they are unable to comply with the new state laws.
As we previously explained, the new state laws require cities to create a hearing board to hear red light camera appeals. As of today, the City of Miami and Davie have both suspended their red light camera programs. It will be interesting to see if others follow as city officials attempt to comply with the new law while still making the cameras a profitable endeavor.
