Where Are School Bus Camera Systems Active In Florida? (May 2026 Update)

mayo 5, 2026

School bus stop arm camera systems are rapidly expanding across Florida, and many drivers are being caught off guard. These automated enforcement programs issue tickets to drivers who fail to stop for a school bus when required by law. As more counties roll out or reactivate these systems, it is becoming increasingly important to know where they are active.

This page will be continuously updated by The Ticket Clinic to track where school bus camera systems are currently in use across Florida, along with new locations expected to launch soon.

Active School Bus Camera Systems in Florida

Miami-Dade County

As of May 2026, Miami-Dade County has officially reactivated its school bus camera enforcement program after a pause in 2025. The relaunch comes with updated procedures and renewed enforcement, meaning drivers should expect an increase in citations, especially in high-traffic school zones. Cameras start issuing tickets on May 18th 2026. It’s been reported that +900 buses are equipped with camera systems.

Hillsborough County

Hillsborough County, including the Tampa area, has an active school bus camera program in place. Enforcement has been ongoing, and thousands of citations have already been issued through automated systems mounted on school buses. Learn more about the program here.

Duval County

Duval County, which includes Jacksonville, also has an active school bus camera system. Local officials have emphasized safety and compliance, and enforcement continues to expand across the county. The program started to issue tickets on May 1st 2026. During a warning period, it was reported that over 600 warnings were issued.

Polk County

School bus cameras were activated in Polk County during the 2025 school year. However, the program was put on hold for several months later to work out technical issues. The program was reactivated in January 2026 and is currently issuing tickets.

Brevard County

In Brevard County, school bus cameras were activated back in 2025. It’s been reported that +400 buses have been equipped with the technology to ticket drivers.

Lee County

Drivers in the Fort Myers area have been receiving tickets from school bus camera since 2025. Their program is currently active and reports issuing +1,300 tickets per week.

School Bus Camera Programs Coming Soon

Broward County

Broward County is in the process of rolling out its school bus camera enforcement program. While not fully active yet, officials have indicated that implementation is underway, and drivers should expect activation in the near future. Recently, the county announced the program should be operational by the 2026/27 school year.

How School Bus Camera Tickets Work in Florida

School bus camera systems are mounted directly on the side of buses and automatically record vehicles that fail to stop when the stop arm is extended. These systems capture video and images of the violation, and a citation is then mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle.

Unlike traditional traffic stops, these tickets are issued without an officer present. That means many drivers do not realize they were cited until they receive a notice in the mail, sometimes weeks later.

Why These Tickets Are Increasing

Florida has seen a sharp increase in automated traffic enforcement, particularly in school zones. Local governments are partnering with private vendors to install and manage these systems, often citing safety concerns. However, the volume of tickets issued has raised concerns among drivers about fairness and accuracy.
