No more simple ticket-and-go.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>First offense: up to 30 days in jail and a $500 fine.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Second offense within five years: up to 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Repeat offenders can face a one-year license suspension, even if they avoid jail.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why the Change?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In 2023 alone, Florida issued over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcjb.com\/2025\/06\/11\/new-florida-law-targets-dangerous-speeders\/\"><strong>683,000 speeding tickets<\/strong>, with nearly <strong>2,600<\/strong><\/a> for drivers going more than 50\u202fmph over the limit.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Since 2024, the state of Florida has been cracking down on all sorts of activity considered dangerous on the roadways such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theticketclinic.com\/blog\/stricter-street-racing-penalties-start-july-1st-in-florida\/\">street racing<\/a> and takeovers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tough Talk from Opposing Law Makers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, there are voices cautioning about harsh penalties. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-sun.com\/motors\/14489906\/drivers-face-1000-fines-road-bans-florida\/\">Rep. Anna Eskamani <\/a>notes that \u201cthere is no clear data [that] enhanced penalties reduce crime,\u201d suggesting a need to explore alternative tactics.
