{"id":4206,"date":"2013-05-14T23:22:23","date_gmt":"2013-05-14T23:22:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.theticketclinic.com\/blog\/?p=231"},"modified":"2023-01-30T21:49:25","modified_gmt":"2023-01-30T21:49:25","slug":"speeding-ticket-urban-legend-unmasked","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theticketclinic.com\/es\/blog\/speeding-ticket-urban-legend-unmasked\/","title":{"rendered":"Speeding Ticket Urban Legend Unmasked"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #040404;\">A friend of The Ticket Clinic reached out to us to clear up this urban legend that has made its way around the internet. &nbsp;There are several versions of the tale floating around, but here is the one we received:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">If you get a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theticketclinic.com\/es\/services\/speeding-ticket-lawyer\/\">speeding ticket&nbsp;<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">or went through a&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">red light<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">, or whatever the case may be, you&#8217;re going to&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">get points on your license<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">&nbsp;and an increase in&nbsp;<\/span>your auto insurance. This is a method to insure that you do not get&nbsp;the points. &nbsp;<span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">When you get your fine,&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">send in a check&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">to pay for it. If the fine is&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">$79.00,&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">make the check out for&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">$82.00,<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">&nbsp;some small amount over the fine.&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">The system will then have to&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">send you back a check<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">&nbsp;for the difference. &nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">However, here is the trick:&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">DO NOT CASH THE REFUND CHECK<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">! Throw it away!&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">THAT&#8217;S RIGHT&#8230;THROW IT AWAY&#8230;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">Points are not assessed to your license until all financial transactions are complete.&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">If you do not cash the check<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">, then the transactions are&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">NOT complete<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial;\">.
