Obviously, it\u2019s a nerve-racking experience that probably rates right up there with a trip to the dentist. It is possible, though, to limit the unpleasantness to a minimum if you keep a few pointers in mind. Here what to do if you are stopped by the police:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>As soon as it is safe to do so, immediately steer over as far as possible to the right-hand curb or shoulder of the road. Be sure to keep clear of intersections.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remain stopped and wait inside your vehicle until or unless the officer directs you to do otherwise.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Keep your hands in plain sight.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Turn on the interior light if it is dark outside.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Comply with directions given by the officer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Upon request, show your license, registration and proof of insurance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Answer questions and communicate honestly and politely. Ask for an explanation if there\u2019s something that is not clear.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If a citation is issued, calmly accept it. Keep in mind that acceptance is not an admission of guilt.
